The journey for Really Real Protein Cakes officially launched in Spring of 2026, but it began long before...around my daughter's 1st birthday when she developed a sweet tooth. At the same time, I was still struggling to lose my postpartum weight. The years that followed her first birthday were full of mealtime chaos and wasted "healthy" snacks. She would refuse to eat food unless it was full of sugar, and I was tired of the constant temptation.
I would spend hundreds of dollars every week on high-protein, low-sugar snacks only to end up throwing half of them away in disgust. The cost and stress of trying to refine our diet was insane, especially being on-the-go almost every day.
In Winter of 2025 I decided it was time to start making my own protein treats. Most of them were fun and easy. Cookies, bars, and random treats were fast and simple. But cake was a challenge. And we missed cake.
In the midst of fighting cavities and losing the baby weight, I knew I had to do something. We couldn't find anything in the store to replace our favorite food.
So I tried to make my own protein cake and it came out dense and dry, time and time again.
Now, I am not a professional baker by any means. But I have been a baking-obsessed, Food Network enthusiast from the age of 5. My strong suit in baking has always been cakes, so this challenge was more than welcome.
I began to make a change here and there, testing each recipe like some kind of cake scientist.
Until one day, it came out perfect.
Then I got the confidence to try making a protein frosting. Again, it came out wrong the first several tries. Too grainy in one recipe, not stable enough in another. I kept trying, refusing to give up on my vision of housing an entire cake on movie night with my daughter.
Eventually I had the perfect protein frosting recipe to pair with my amazing protein cake recipe.
I ran more experiments for flavors and texture, but they all failed.
It was something about Spring that inspired the perfect recipes that we recreate to this day...
Handcrafted with love, each recipe is designed for you to have your cake and eat it too.
